Longevity Supplication and Offerings to the Guru by Sādhana Practice and Accumulation of Tara Mantra

Dedicated to the excellent health, longevity, and flourishing enlightened activities of our main teacher and founder, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, and to share prayers and blessings for the world and all sentient beings, this weekend program will offer participants an opportunity to immerse themselves in the meditation and mantra recitation of one of the most renowned forms of Ārya Tārā, Khadiravaṇitārā, through the Khadiravaṇitārā Sādhana authored and compiled by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. The main content of the retreat will be practice sessions of the Khadiravaṇitārā Sādhana, with most sessions led by Mitra  Tyler Dewar. The aspect of the sādhana that will be most emphasized during the retreat is the accumulation of the ten-syllable mantra of Khadiravaṇitārā, Oṃ Tāre Tuttāre Ture Svāhā. Our group mantra accumulation tallies will be contributed to a Khadiravaṇitārā mantra accumulation offering initiated by Rinpoche’s saṅgha, Nalandabodhi. (view schedule)

Mitra Tyler will also offer an opening talk, two additional teaching sessions, and a Q&A period. Students can expect to learn about and gain some first-hand experience of:

  • The view and implementation of deity practice as a skillful method on the path awakening our innate wisdom and compassion

  • The meaning and practice of mantra

  • The special background and significance of Ārya Tārā

  • Bringing the blessings of Ārya Tārā into our lives and environment

Because of the special focus on supporting his longevity and enlightened activities, the program  is recommended for students and those who have faith in Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche and who are already familiar with the basic principles of mahāyāna Buddhism. With that being said, there are no formal attendance restrictions and all who wish to participate are welcome. (view schedule)

Context for the Retreat

The current Tibetan astrological year is that of the Wood Snake. The year-sign of our main teacher and founder, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, is also Snake. During years with the same animal sign as the natal year of a given lineage-holding dharma master, it is customary for students and those who have faith in that master to offer extra support through practice, in order to increase auspicious conditions and tame any obstacle-promoting energies that may be present. Khadiravaṇitārā and her meditation practice and mantra recitation are especially renowned for their ability to clear away obstacles and promote the assembly of harmonious conditions. Therefore, with its intensive practice of the Khadiravaṇitārā Sādhana, this retreat aims to offer a strong contribution of not only supportive energy for Rinpoche but for peace and well-being for the program participants and their loved ones, the entire world, and all sentient beings.
